  • Do NOT light a match, candle, or cigarettes
  • Do NOT use or try to turn off any appliances or meters
  • Leave the premises and make sure all members of your family are safely outside of the home
  • If possible, while exiting, leave doors/windows open
  • Call your local gas supplier or 911 from cell phone outside or from a neighbor’s home
  • Call Roadrunner Services Inc. immediately after you call your local gas supplier or 911 so we can help

What We’ll Do: If your local gas supplier has already tagged your meter, RoadRunner Services Inc. will help. We will assess and diagnosis the problem. We will also call Arizona Blue Stake so that we can safely dig in the affected areas.

How to Detect Gas Leaks:

  • Natural gas is odorless. However, gas companies add a “rotten egg” smell that usually can be easily detected.
  • Carbon Monoxide poisoning is odorless but can be fatal. Low-level poisoning can mimic flu symptoms (without the fever): headache, weakness, nausea, disorientation, and deep fatigue. Higher levels can make u fall asleep, lapse into a coma and at extreme amounts be fatal.
  • You may also purchase an easy-to-install home gas detector unit at a home center for $35-$50. Typical gas detectors will identify methane and propane gas. Separate detectors may also be purchases for carbon monoxide ($45-$50). We recommend these detectors for anyone with a diminished sense of smell and the elderly.
  • Outdoor leaks are harder to detect by smell, but can be indicated by a hissing sounds; dirt or water being blown into the air; bubbles on the surface of puddles or ponds; or dead grass/vegetation near a gas line.

How to Prevent Gas Leaks:

  • It is important to make sure your gas appliances are properly installed and vented, and that they are kept clean in good working order.
  • Annual inspections by a qualified technician are RECOMMENDED.
